Dan Garrity has been teaching media arts for 25 years, following a 15-year professional career in television news. He has a wide variety of experience in that field serving as a videographer, editor, anchor, reporter, and newsroom manager. During the Cold War, he served proudly in the Air Force as an airborne Russian linguist. Languages are more than a hobby to Dan — they are windows to stories from people with diverse perspectives on the world. He feels it an honor to share with students the gift of digital storytelling, and more importantly, perhaps, sharing the importance of caring for the subjects of our stories. Garrity's proudest achievement is being married to the love of his life, Jennifer, for 44 years. They have three children and six grandchildren.
