Get a head start on your education and career by earning Technical Competency Credit in high school. Through participation in approved career-technical pathways you can engage in hands-on, real-world skills training to earn college credit and enter the workforce. 

Earn College Credit

Technical Competency Credit is managed through Idaho Skillstack

  • Participate in an approved high school career-technical pathway.
  • Earn credit through badges awarded by passing required high school and post-secondary assessments.
  • Transcribe and purchase your credits upon enrollment at an Idaho college or university, including College of Western Idaho (CWI), with a corresponding Career and Technical Education (CTE) program within two years of completion.
  • Translate your skills into the workforce in a variety of in-demand careers!

    Advanced Opportunities 

    Idaho's Advanced Opportunities initiative provides funding for students in grades 7 – 12 attending public school to use toward Technical Competency Credits. Please note, Advanced Opportunities funding does not cover the cost of textbooks, tools, uniforms, drug testing, or supplies.

  • Transferring Credits

    Connect with a Dual Credit Transition Coordinator to learn how Technical Competency Credit applies when transferring to CWI.

    • For other colleges and universities within and outside of Idaho, be sure to contact the institution directly before registering for Technical Competency Credits to review and understand transfer credit policies. 
    • Students who have an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) may continue towards a Bachelor of Applied Science (BAS) in any discipline.
