John Tucker

Department Chair

John is the Department Chair of Public Safety Programs at the College of Western Idaho with oversight on the implementation, maintenance, and evaluation in the areas of Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, Fire Service Technology, and working on the development of our other public safety programs. John supervises a team of very dedicated Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement, and Fire Service Technology faculty and staff that delivers these programs to help students achieve success within their program area.

John retired as a Lieutenant from the Boise Police Department in 2021.  He has 26 years of dedicated law enforcement experience and served with both the Ada County Sheriff's Office and Boise Police. John also retired from a military career where he served on active duty in the US Marines and later retired from the Idaho Army National Guard.  His military service spans from 1985 to 2012.   

John possesses a Master of Business Administration with concentrations in Strategic Leadership and Conflict/Negotiation Management.  He has served as an adjunct professor in criminal justice for over 9 years and spent his last 8 years in the military as an instructor in their leadership programs. 

John is married and they have 4 children (3 boys and a girl).  He and his wife enjoy the country lifestyle here in the local area.  He and his wife enjoy the outdoors and they enjoy their Irish Setters.
