MEDIA ADVISORY – On Wednesday, May 8, a group of College of Western Idaho (CWI) employees completed the last delivery of books to help fill a new library at the Canyon-Owyhee School Service Agency (COSSA) in Wilder. The books were donated as part of a three month long book drive resulting in the collection of over 1,000 books for the COSSA Regional Technology and Education Center. “CWI has furnished an impressive variety of books for our students, who wouldn’t otherwise have regular access to these resources,” says COSSA English Teacher, Paul Williams.
COSSA serves over 1,375 students each year, through special education, alternative education, and professional technical education. Prior to the CWI book drive, the school’s library was virtually non-existent. In addition to the books, CWI employees were also able to collect donated bookshelves to house the new COSSA library collection.
“When we heard COSSA had practically no library resources, we saw it as a tremendous opportunity to help a community partner,” says Lindsay Reynolds, a CWI employee who helped coordinate the book drive. “In the end, we were able to supply a library full of valuable resources for the students at COSSA. It really was an incredible collaborative effort between the faculty, staff, and students of CWI, as well as other community members.”
