Faculty & Staff - edu Transition

College of Western Idaho (CWI) is transitioning systems as part of the .edu transition, and we will try to share information about systems that impact faculty and staff, on this page. 

March 21-29 Final Transition:

College of Western Idaho (CWI) will be completing the final step in transitioning to .edu during spring break, beginning Saturday, March 21 through Sunday, March 29.

During this time, you could see intermittent access to email and Office 365 products for students, faculty, and staff, so please plan accordingly. Here are the impacted interfaces:

  • Outlook (email, calendar, Skype)
  • OneDrive
  • Office 365 ProPlus desktop apps such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Office online apps such as Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Other Office 365 apps such as Forms, Flow, PowerBI, Teams, etc.

This work should not affect general use of Colleague, the myCWI Toolkit (Self Service and WebAdvisor), or Blackboard, but could affect the ability to email or access Office 365 from these applications.

The transition process was established by CWI’s governance body, and spring break was chosen to complete this project in an effort to reduce potential issues surrounding the transition.

Email Change

Employee email addresses have changed. Your new email address is active as of May 20.


Employee email addresses will now be username@cwi.edu
USERNAMES will not be changed

Not to worry, as an employee, you will not lose your old emails with this change

Emails will forward from your old email address to your new @cwi.edu address through December 31, 2019.

Web access to email for employees is changing to mail.cwi.edu

  • Colleague - uiprod.cwi.edu
  • Help Desk - helpdesk.cwi.edu
  • Blackboard - blackboard.cwi.edu
  • Email Web Access - mail.cwi.edu

There are several more specialized systems transitioning. Solution Owners have been working collaboratively with IT on these systems, for questions about system transitions for your area, please reach out to your Solution Owner.

Microsoft Office365 and OneDrive addresses will not be changing. The existing web addresses will stay the same. The naming convention was established with Microsoft and cannot be changed at this time.

Benefits of Your New .edu Email address

There are benefits to employees and students with this email change. With the new .edu email addresses, users will now qualify for many more educational specials.

Examples of specials provided for .edu email addresses:

  • LastPass
  • NewEgg
  • Github
  • Apple Music
  • Newspaper Subscriptions
  • Adobe
  • Google
  • Hulu
  • Spotify

These are just a few, with a little research; you may find more discounts available.

What to do if something is not working

There will be parts of the transition that won’t go exactly as planned and that is where we need your help. As systems are transitioned and rolled out, if you identify something that isn’t working correctly, first alert your Solution Owner, they may request you submit a Help Desk ticket. In the ticket, include as much information as you can, including the system that is not working and what action is not working. Tickets will be prioritized based on organizational impact.
